Obituary

Diane Flessa Shipes, 74, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2016 at her home in Huntersville, NC.

She was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY and was the daughter of the late Henry and Doris Flessa and preceded by brothers Hank and Gary and sister, Doris.

Diane was a homemaker and according to her children, "the best mother in the world." She fought a courageous battle with cancer, kidney and heart disease and never gave up. She was brave and never complained of her pain as she stayed strong in her faith. She was an excellent role model for her children as well as many others.

Diane enjoyed many hobbies. She made many beautiful scrapbooks for her family and especially of her grandchildren Sarah and Romaine. She crocheted afghans for family and friends and her cross stitching is framed and adorn the walls of her home. She painted ceramic Christmas villages and ornaments and loved to sew, cook, read, listen to music and loved watching granddaughter, Sarah ride her horse.,

Some of the things she loved was watching Days of Our Lives (soap opera) since its beginning in 1965; triominoes competition with her son-in-law, Romaine; lobster; loved, loved, loved her iPad (very tech savvy for her age); socializing with family and friends and very much loved her husband of almost 54 years on April 12, 2016

Her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband, Charles Shipes, Jr.; her adoring daughters, Tracy Shipes, Sandy Camera and husband, Romaine, Cheryl Shipes Broome; granddaughter, Sarah Broome; grandson, Romaine; brother, Richard Flessa and wife Ethel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will begin Saturday, January 30, 2016 at11:00 AM in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West. Entombment will follow the service in the Forest Lawn West Garden Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Saturday , January 30th at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00am.
